She was born on February 20, 1966 in De Kalb, Illinois, USA. She was one of the four children John and Jennifer Crawford. She had very tough times in her childhood because her brother Jeffrey, died of leukemia soon after Christmas when she was ten Her parents later divorced when she was sixteen. She graduated first in her class from high school and went on to study chemical engineering at Northwestern University.
She spent two summers of modeling, represented by Elite Model Management in Chicago, which lead her to supermodel success in New York. Cindy became Mrs. Rande Gerber in 1998, and the couple has one son, Presley Walker.
She has numerous film and television credits and is the author of Cindy Crawford's Basic Face, a make-up workbook published by Broadway Books. Cindy has very successfully made the transition from the designer catwalks to the profession of broadcast journalism with MTV's acclaimed "House of Style", which she has hosted for six years.
She has been a featured correspondent and guest-hosted numerous talk shows, including Regis & Kathie Lee and NBC's Later. Cindy has developed several special projects exclusively with ABC Television, the first of which was the highly successful Sex with Cindy Crawford.
Cindy is also an acclaimed producer, with her successful 'Cindy Crawford - Shape Your Body' workout video she sold over 2 million copies in the United States alone. The epitome of a supermodel, Cindy has ventured into practically every field possible, realizing that the life span of a model is relatively short. She administrates her own corporation, Crawdaddy Inc., which holds contracts for Pepsi, Kay Jewelers, and most notably Revlon.
Crawford donates both her time and energy to breast and ovarian cancer research and the Leukemia Society of American in memory of her brother. Half of the money from her calendar sales goes to organizations for leukemia research.
