Coldplay never knew that they will be the reigning kings of England's pop star until they released their debut album "Parachute". They could do this all with the help of sheer dedication and earnest efforts to excel.
What helped Coldplay to become England's favorite rock & roll sons was their simplicity. They wrote very simple songs which straightly yet gently touched the hearts of listener. Coldplay secured a permanent position in Britain's music elite with the help of vulnerable guitar playing of Jonny Buckland, the melodic bassline of Guy Berryman, thoughtful drumming of Will Champion, and lead Chris Martin's stark, tenor vocal. The group comprised of Will who loved playing guitar but agreed to be the drummer for the troop. Chris Martin a shy product of boarding school was the lead singer/guitarist/pianist. Lead guitarist Jonny Buckland was born 22 odd years ago in London, then his family relocated to Mold, North Wales when he was just four. Jonny first picked up a guitar at the tender age of 11, encouraged by his older brother. Bassist Guy Berryman was born in Scotland, although his family later moved to Kent, England where he started to collect rare groove and funk records when all the other kids were into indie rock. He started playing bass at age 13 and is still inspired by a love of those early records.
The group played their first gig at a festival for unsigned bands in Manchester, and The Safety EP was issued shortly thereafter. The Brothers and Sisters EP was issued by Fierce Panda and released a year later. Both releases saw only 500 pressings. Their sweet melodies and swooning lyrics landed Coldplay a U.K. deal with Parlophone in April 1999, and the limited-edition five-track, The Blue Room EP, followed that fall. With endearing nods from the media, the dream pop foursome were hailed as the next Travis thanks to their simplistic acoustics and charming personas. Two more EPs, Shiver and Yellow, arrived in spring 2000.
Then they released 'Parachute'. No one predicted that just a short time later, Parachutes would debut at number 1 and continue to hover in the Top Ten Charts for the remainder of the year. The band was also nominated for an esteemed Mercury Music Prize, received the Q Award for Best Album. Rumors soon spread that there will be a split but Coldplay resumed playing in summer 2001 and earned additional success with second single "Trouble."
Then they started preparing for their second album and once again rumors started spreading that this will be their last album. A Rush of Blood to the Head was released in August 2002. This made them the bonafide top pop stars. Martin soon married actress Gwyneth Paltrow in December 2003.
The band set down to prepare their third album. The band completed recording of X&Y. "Speed of Sound" marked the band's first singlein spring 2005.
