Katherine Heigl was born on November 24, 1978 in New Canaan, Connecticut. Her birth name was Katherine Marie Heigl. She is the youngest of the four children. Even when she was very young the family moved to New Canaan, Connecticut.

It was her aunt who first spotted her beauty. She took a number of her photographs and sent it to a modelling agency. After a few weeks Katherine was signed as a child model. Katherine then made her debut in a magazine advertisement. But this was just the mere beginning. She then appeared in a commercial for Cheerios breakfast cereal. She however got her big break with "That Night". She then appeared in Steven Soderbergh's 'depression' era drama "King Of The Hill". It was after this appearance that she landed her role in "My Father The Hero". In 1995 she featured in "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory". Although Katherine was doing a number of feature films yet modelling was also under her schedule.

In 1997 she completed her graduation. This was the time when her parents divorced too. So Katherine along with her mother moved to Los Angeles. In 1998 she starred in 'Bug Buster' and 'Bride Of Chucky'

In the year 1999 Katherine featured as Isabel Evans in "Rosewell". To publicize her role on "Roswell", Katherine appeared on the covers of magazines such as TV Guide, Maxim, and Teen as well as appearing in FHM. Katherine later appeared in the FHM and Maxim calendars and FHM's annual 100 sexiest women in the world.

Apart from all this Katherine featured in number of films too. These were "100 Girls" and "Valentine," a horror film starring David Boreanaz and Denise Richards. She also featured in "Ground Zero," a two-hour, original television thriller. Katherine co-starred as a brilliant and politically-concerned college student who helps to build a nuclear device, to illustrate the need for a change in national priorities. The bomb ends up in the hands of a terrorist following betrayal by a fellow student.

Unfortunately, "The Seventh Power" based on the bestseller by James Mills was shelved when its plot was considered too close for comfort to the terrible events of September 11, 2001. The title given, and its relation to September 11 also was deemed far too close thus, when "Ground Zero" re-emerged in 2003, it was now titled "Critical Assembly". In 2002 she featured in "Romy and Michele: In The Beginning". She then featured in a telefilm named "Love Comes Softly". Katherine was cast as Isabella Linton in MTV?s modern 'revamp' of Emily Bronte's classic novel "Wuthering Heights".

In 2003 she once again featured in a horror film "Evil Never Dies". She then appeared in "The Ringer"

On a personal note Katherine has been dating her former Roswell co-star, Jason Behr.
