Demi Moore is one amongst the most successful actresses of the Hollywood industry. She was born on November 11, 1962 in Roswell, New Mexico, USA. Unlike others, Demi had a very disturbed childhood. This was basically for her father who divorced her mother even before she was born. Her mother remarried Danny Guynes but he too proved no good because he was too gambling addicted and he moved his family 30 times in search of work. Morover whatever money he made he wasted it over gambling.
Moore was gifted with strong determination which gave her the perfect opportunity to get what she wanted. She began a modeling career at age 16 and was married by 18 to rock musician Freddy Moore. The couple moved in together and shortly thereafter, Moore caught the acting bug from her next door neighbor, Nastassja
Kinski.
Moore soon landed a role on the popular daytime soap opera, General Hospital, but she didn't stay long. She only remained long enough to leave a distinct impression on the minds of the audience. In 1984, she made her feature film debut in Blame it on Rio, which caught the eye of director Joel Schumacher, who was putting together a cast for his film St. Elmo's Fire. She would land a role in the film and become an official member of the Brat Pack. During the filming of St. Elmo's Fire, Moore's cocaine addiction surfaced and she was ordered by Schumacher to get clean. The fact that her character in St. Elmo's was also a cocaine addict couldn't have helped matters.
While filming the movie, Moore met and began dating Emilio
Estevez, whom she would see off and on over a period of three years. She began to be known as a volatile woman, given to bad temper, but her talent to captivate audiences was undeniable. Eventually, she would meet and marry actor Bruce Willis, whom she would have an eleven year relationship with before calling it quits in 1998. They have three children together,
Rumer, Scout and Tallulah.
The 90s have been relatively kind to Demi Moore. She began the decade with Ghost, a film which earned critical raves and cheering audiences. Moore was brilliant in the subtle and understated romantic role. In 1992, she appeared in A Few Good Men as a tough-on-the-outside but soft-on-the-inside attorney opposite Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson. In 1993, she starred in the controversial and acclaimed Indecent Proposal with Woody Harrelson and Robert Redford.
By this point, Moore was a Hollywood icon, known more for her life and personality than for her body of work - which was a good thing considering what was about to come. Her early success in the 90s was undermined by a string of failures. As the 90s were wearing on, Moore was becoming increasingly icy in her roles and the warmth of Ghost disappeared. This was exemplified in Disclosure, The Scarlet Letter, and Striptease. The public, while fascinated by Moore's life, weren't really interested in seeing her ACT.
Still, Moore is hardly looking for work or money. She owns a stake in the successful Planet Hollywood restaurant franchise, and had a recent come-back, film success with
G.I. Jane. In that film, her toughness actually worked in her favor. Demi Moore has lots of ambition, and a fair amount of talent. The problem is that sometimes she gets so caught up in the first, that she forgets about the second. Regardless, her career has been dynamic and interesting and continues to be to this day. She now sits as one of the most recognized and influential faces in Hollywood. |
